Use of Macrodantin
Macrodantin or Nitrofurantoin used to treat or prevent
urinary tract infections because of certain bacteria. It kills sensitive
bacteria and used as an antibiotic for specific use in the urinary tract.
Doctor advises not to use Macrodantin if:
- Patient is allergic to any component in Macrodantin.
- Patient is pregnant and at term (ninth month of pregnancy), Patient is about to go into labor, or Patient is in labor.
- Patient has decreased urination or decreased kidney function, or in case you are not able to urinate.
- Patient has a history of yellowing of the skin or eyes after taking any form of Macrodantin or any kind of liver problem.
- The patient is younger than one month old.

- In case patient has anemia, blood electrolyte problems, diabetes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, liver problems, kidney problems, nerve problems (eg, peripheral neuropathy), porphyria, or low levels of vitamin B in blood.
- In case patient has a background marked by lungs problem or he/she has very poor health.
- Probenecid or sulfinpyrazone may decrease Macrodantin's effectiveness or increase the risk of Macrodantin's side effects. This is not complete list of medicine that can interact with Macrodantin other drug may interact, so inform drug specialist before using Macrodantin.
How to use (dosing information)Macrodantin :
- Use Macrodantin as coordinated by your drug specialist. Check the label on the prescription for accurate dosing guidelines.
- Take Macrodantin by mouth with meal.
- Try not to take an antacid that has magnesium trisilicate in it while you are using nitrofurantoin drug. Check with your drug specialist in case you are uncertain which antacids have magnesium trisilicate in them.
- Doctor recommended drinking extra fluids while you are taking Macrodantin.
- Patient should complete Macrodantin course to get rid infection completely. And patient should continue taking it regardless he feel better.
- In case you miss a measurement of Macrodantin, take it at the earliest possible. In case it is nearly time for your next dose, come back to your regular dosing schedule. Try not to take 2 doses at a single time.
Essential safety information:
- Macrodantin may bring dizziness or drowsiness. These impacts might be more awful in case you take it with liquor or certain drugs.

- Diabetes and Macrodantin - it may cause the outcome of some tests for urine glucose to be wrong. Discuss with your health specialist before you change your dose of your diabetes drugs.
- Lab tests, including kidney function, lung function, and liver function, may be performed before you use Macrodantin drug. These tests help you to monitor your condition, improvement or check for side effects.
- Macrodantin or Nitrofurantoin should not be used in baby younger than one month old; the risk of anemia may be greater in these.
- Pregnancy, breast feeding and Macrodantin: If you are or want to be pregnant, discuss with your health specialist. Try not to take Macrodantin if you are at term (9 month), if you are about to go into labor, or if you are in labor. Additionally Nitrofurantoin is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed baby younger than one month old while you are using Macrodantin. In case your kid is older than one month, discuss with your health specialist.
